  • Bright mid-infrared detections of MAXI J1836-194 with VISIR on the VLT: brightening of the compact jet
The new X-ray transient MAXI J1836-194 is a black hole candidate X-ray binary (BHXB; ATel #3611, #3613, #3628 #3652). Its X-ray spectrum was seen to soften (ATel #3618, #3652) but the X-ray flux has recently decayed and the spectrum has hardened (see link below for the light curve and evolution in the X-ray hardness-intensity diagram).

  • Broad band JHK infrared photometry of an extended sample of late type dwarfs and subdwarfs.
The results of a long term programme of broad band JHK photometry, for a sample of 360 late type stars, made at the Observatorio del Teide (Tenerife, Spain) are presented. Transformations between these magnitudes and those of several currently used systems (CIT (Elias et al. 1982 and Carney 1983), Johnson (Johnson 1966, and Lee 1970), and ESO

  • Broad Low-Intensity Wings in the Emission-Line Profiles of Four Wolf-Rayet Galaxies
High-resolution spectroscopic observations have been obtained for the Wolf-Rayet galaxies He 2-10, II Zw 40, POX 4, and Tol 35. Several subregions have been selected in each slit position in order to investigate possible spatial variations in the line profiles, radial velocities, and ionization conditions of the gas. The most remarkable feature of

  • Bulges of disk galaxies at intermediate redshifts. II. Nuclear, disk, and global colors in the Groth Strip
Context: The chronology of bulge and disk formation is a major unsolved issue in galaxy formation, which impacts on our global understanding of the Hubble sequence. Aims: We analyse colours of the nuclear regions of intermediate redshift disk galaxies, with the aim of obtaining empirical information of relative ages of bulges and disks at 0.1 < z <
