    La Palma will host a new edition of Starmus in 2024, according to Rafael Rebolo, director of the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC), and Garik Israelian, co-director of the festival and astrophysicist, at a press conference held at the IAC headquarters in La Laguna. "We are working to make this a reality and the way we have found is to relate it to the protection of the sky as an asset of humanity, which is why we will go hand in hand with the Starlight Foundation. There is still time to make society aware of the pollution of our sky, especially with the launch of small satellites

  • Sahrawi children from the "Vacaciones en Paz" 2023 edition and their host families in Tenerife at IAC headquarters

    This Tuesday, 22 August, the Science Communication and Outreach Unit (UC3) of the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC) and the Asociación Canaria de Amistad con el Pueblo Saharaui (ACAPS), in collaboration with the Museo de la Ciencia y el Cosmos (MCC, Museos de Tenerife), organised a day of outreach activities as part of the "Vacaciones en Paz" (Holidays in Peace) programme and the Amanar project.     Under the theme "Other Worlds", this edition highlighted the latest discoveries and advances in research on extrasolar planets, the Solar System and applications of astrophysical technology in other fields, such as Earth observation from space.     The editorial Springer is publishing the book “Astronomy of Ancient Egypt: A Cultural Perspective” by the researcher at the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC) Juan Antonio Belmonte, and the egyptologist from the Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona (UAB) Josep Lull.
