  • The AG Carinae nebula: abundant evidence for a red supergiant progenitor?
AG Carinae is a massive, evolved supergiant which is thought to be in transition from an O star to a Wolf-Rayet (WR) star and is currently identified as a luminous blue variable (LBV) with logL/solar=6.0. We present an abundance study of the ejecta nebula surrounding AG Car with the aim of elucidating the evolutionary history of the central star

  • The age-mass relation for chromospherically active binaries. III. Lithium depletion in giant components
We present a study of the lithium abundances of a sample of evolved components of Chromospherically Active Binary Systems. We show that a significant part of them have lithium excesses, independently of their mass and evolutionary stage. Therefore, it can be concluded that Li abundance does not depend on age for giant components of CABS. These

  • The age-metallicity relationship in the Fornax spheroidal dwarf galaxy
We produce a comprehensive field star age-metallicity relationship (AMR) from the earliest epoch until ˜1 Gyr ago for three fields in the Fornax dwarf spheroidal galaxy by using VI photometric data obtained with FORS1 at the VLT. We find that the innermost one does not contain dominant very old stars (age > 12 Gyr), whereas the relatively outer

  • The Alhambra Survey: a Large Area Multimedium-Band Optical and Near-Infrared Photometric Survey
Here we describe the first results of the Advanced Large Homogeneous Area Medium-Band Redshift Astronomical (ALHAMBRA) survey, which provides cosmic tomography of the evolution of the contents of the universe over most of cosmic history. Our novel approach employs 20 contiguous, equal-width, medium-band filters covering from 3500 Å to 9700 Å, plus

  • The ALHAMBRA survey: Discovery of a faint QSO at z = 5.41
Aims: We aim to illustrate the potentiality of the Advanced Large, Homogeneous Area, Medium-Band Redshift Astronomical (ALHAMBRA) survey to investigate the high-redshift universe through the detection of quasi stellar objects (QSOs) at redshifts higher than 5. Methods: We searched for QSOs candidates at high redshift by fitting an extensive library
