  • Active star formation regions at the edge of the LMC Bar: NGC 1850 and NGC 1858
We present UBV Johnson CCD photometry of two young clusters of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC), namely NGC 1850 and NGC 1858, which are located at the NW part of the Bar. We determine their reddening, age and slope of the initial mass function (IMF). The age of NGC 1858 is 8 x 106 yr, while that for the majority of stars in NGC 1850 is 70 x 106 yr

  • Evidence for supersonic downflows in the photosphere of a delta sunspot
We present polarization profiles observed with the High Altitude Observatory/National Solar Observatory (HAO/NSO) Advanced Stokes Polarimeter (ASP) that demonstrate, in a model-independent way, the presence of strong downflows close to the neutral line of a delta sunspot (a spot with both polarities contained within the same penumbra). The flows

  • Intense blazar activity in the photopolarimetric light curve of OJ 287
We present a detailed analysis on photopolarimetric monitoring on OJ 287 conducted at the Nordic Optical Telescope during January 1991. Large rapid variations were observed in flux, polarization and position angle; the largest being a 40% increase in the flux with a simultaneous 55 degree position angle rotation in five hours. Changes in the

  • A 60-NIGHT Campaign on Dwarf Novae - Part One - Photometric Variability of Su-Ursae and Yz-Cancri
A 60-night campaign on SU UMa, YZ Cnc and some secondary targets was carried out during 1988 December and 1989 January at the Observatorio del Roque de Los Muchachos (the 1988 International Time Project). The aim was to study the behaviour of these dwarf novae through their outburst cycle. Here we present the overall light curves of the main

  • Surface photometry of low-luminosity radio galaxies
We present the results on the optical morphology and structure of 25 low-luminosity radio galaxies. The radial dependence of parameters like the surface brightness, ellipticity, center, and position angle of the isophotes is presented to study the properties of the galaxies. Results for individual objects are discussed.

  • Photoelectric photometry of Periodic Comet Faye.
The authors present the results of narrow-band filter photometry of Periodic Comet Faye obtained from Estacion Astronomica "Dr. Carlos U. Cesco" of Felix Aguilar Observatory, San Juan, Argentina, in November and December 1991 using the International Halley Watch (IHW) standard filters. The production rates of CN, C2 and C3 are derived from the
