  • Chandra Observations of the M31 X-Ray Transient SWIFT J004320.5+411528
As part of our ongoing Chandra/HST M31 transient program we report on a Chandra ACIS observation of M31 containing the new transient source reported by Pietsch et al. (2008, ATel #1674). A single 5ks observation was performed on 2008-09-01.32 UT. The Chandra coordinates for this source (subject to the boresight correction) are RA(J2000) 00:43:20

  • Changes in Pluto's Atmosphere Revealed by the P126A Occultation
We will report the results from an occultation of P126A by Pluto on the night of 2002 July 20 UT. The event was successfully observed with a 0.4-m telescope at Mamiña, Chile under photometric conditions. Additional data were collected at CTIO on a 0.6-m telescope with heavy interference from clouds. The CTIO observations preclude an occultation at

  • Characterization of a subsample of the Planck SZ source cluster catalogues using optical SDSS DR12 data
Aims: The Planck catalogues of Sunyaev -Zeldovich (SZ) sources, PSZ1 and PSZ2, are the largest catalogues of galaxy clusters selected through their SZ signature in the full sky. In 2013, we started a long-term observational programme at Canary Island observatories with the aim of validating ˜500 unconfirmed SZ sources. In this work we present

  • Characterization of Magnetic Flux in the Quiet Sun. II. The Internetwork Fields at High Angular Resolution
This paper presents high-resolution (0.6") spectropolarimetric observations of very quiet solar regions. We make determinations of the magnetic flux density, intrinsic field strength, and magnetic filling factor in these regions. Our results confirm other previous works in that most of the internetwork flux is in the form of intrinsically strong

  • Characterization of the Nucleus of 103P/Hartley 2 for the EPOXI Mission
With the recovery of comet 103P/Hartley 2, the target of the EPOXI mission, we have begun the characterization of the nucleus necessary for the mission. Observations from past apparitions of this comet show that it typically begins activity while far from the sun, near r = 4 AU (about 450 days pre-perihelion). This makes obtaining information about

  • Characterizing bar structures: application to NGC 1300, NGC 7479 and NGC 7723
Detailed surface photometry has been carried out for three barred galaxies with use of high resolution CCD broad-band images in the B, V and I bands. Using azimuthal luminosity profiles and their decomposition into Fourier Series, the structural parameters (length and strength) of the bars in the three galaxies have been obtained. We have also
