  • Variable stars in local group galaxies - IV. RR Lyrae stars in the central regions of the low-density galaxy Crater II
We present a search and analysis of variable stars in the recently discovered Crater II dwarf galaxy. Based on B, V, I data collected with the Isaac Newton Telescope (FoV˜0.44 deg2), we detected 37 variable stars, of which 34 are bone-fide RR Lyrae stars of Crater II (28 RRab, 4 RRc, 2 RRd). We applied the metal-independent (V, B - V) Period

  • Two planetary systems with transiting Earth-sized and super-Earth planets orbiting late-type dwarf stars
We present two new planetary systems found around cool dwarf stars with data from the K2 mission. The first system was found in K2-239 (EPIC 248545986), characterized in this work as M3.0V and observed in the 14th campaign of K2. It consists of three Earth-sized transiting planets with radii of 1.1, 1.0, and 1.1 R⊕, showing a compact configuration

  • Three-dimensional simulations of solar magneto-convection including effects of partial ionization
In recent decades, REALISTIC three-dimensional radiative-magnetohydrodynamic simulations have become the dominant theoretical tool for understanding the complex interactions between the plasma and magnetic field on the Sun. Most of such simulations are based on approximations of magnetohydrodynamics, without directly considering the consequences of

  • The VLT-FLAMES Tarantula Survey. XXIX. Massive star formation in the local 30 Doradus starburst
The 30 Doradus (30 Dor) nebula in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) is the brightest HII region in the Local Group and a prototype starburst similar to those found in high redshift galaxies. It is thus a stepping stone to understand the complex formation processes of stars in starburst regions across the Universe. Here, we have studied the formation

  • The visible and near-infrared spectra of asteroids in cometary orbits
Context. Dynamical and albedo properties suggest that asteroids in cometary orbits (ACOs) are dormant or extinct comets. Their study provides new insights for understanding the end-states of comets and the size of the comet population. Aims: We intend to study the visible and near-infrared (NIR) spectral properties of different ACO populations and

  • The TROY project. II. Multi-technique constraints on exotrojans in nine planetary systems
Context. Co-orbital bodies are the byproduct of planet formation and evolution, as we know from the solar system. Although planet-size co-orbitals do not exists in our planetary system, dynamical studies show that they can remain stable for long periods of time in the gravitational well of massive planets. Should they exist, their detection is
