Sistema Solar y Sistemas Planetarios (SEYSS)

La línea de sistemas planetarios y sistema solar engloba diversos grupos de investigación trabajando en Exoplanetas, Sistema Solar y Astronomía Cultural. Nuestros objetivos principales son:

  • La detección y caracterización de planetas gigantes y rocosos alrededor de estrellas cercanas utilizando los instrumentos más avanzados en Tierra (CARMENES, ESPRESSO, HARPS Norte y Sur, SONG, LCO, MUSCAT2) y misiones espaciales (CoRoT, Kepler K2, TESS y PLATO). El grupo está particularmente interesado en el estudio de planetas de tipo terrestre en la zona de habitabilidad de sus estrellas donde el agua puede estar en forma líquida.
  • La caracterización de las atmósferas de exoplanetas para conocer su estructura y composición, tanto por tránsitos como por imagen directa, utilizando telescopios terrestres como GTC y misiones espaciales como CHEOPS.
  • Investigar la formación de sistemas planetarios mediante el estudio de la composición química de las estrellas con planetas y la evolución dinámica de los exoplanetas en sus primeras etapas de formación.
  • Estudiar las propiedades físicas de diferentes familias de pequeños cuerpos del sistema solar (asteroides, cometas, objetos trans-neptunianos, etc.) para entender el origen y evolución del sistema solar con telescopios como GTC y misiones espaciales como OSIRIS-REx.
  • El estudio de las cosmologías del pasado a través de la astronomía cultural y la defensa del patrimonio cultural a través de la astronomía.
