  • Solar oscillations: time analysis of the GOLF p-mode signal
We determine the intrinsic phase lag of the GOLF data for the solar p-mode velocity deduced either from one of the narrow band photometers working alternatively on blue and red wing of the sodium lines. The timing of the ``blue wing'' velocity coming from the current GOLF data is given in respect to the ground-based observations. The phase lag for

  • Unusual Morphologies from the HST Snapshot Survey of BL Lac Objects: Three Optical Jets and A Possible Einstein Ring
The HST snapshot survey of 108 BL Lac objects has revealed several instances of unusual morphologies, three jets and a possible Einstein ring. Of the three detected optical jets, two were already known (PKS 0521-365 and 3C371) and one is a new discovery (PKS 2201+044). At HST resolution the jets are well resolved and individual knots clearly seen

  • Radio Imaging of the Sun from Space
Since the 1960s, ground-based radio astronomers have had the capability to image solar radio emissions using aperture synthesis techniques. These images show the two-dimensional time history of CME-driven shock fronts, for example. However, ground-based observations are limited by the terrestrial ionosphere to frequencies above about 15 MHz, which

  • Optical Outburst of AQL X-1
We report YALO consortium observations using the Yale 1-m telescope at CTIO and observations with the 48" telescope at the Whipple Observatory: Aql X-1 = V1333 Aql appears to be beginning a new outburst. This x-ray binary outbursts approximately once per year, and based on its recent outbursts was due to erupt.

  • Scaling behavior of the vertical velocity field in the solar photosphere
We analyze, for the first time, the scaling behavior of the photospheric vertical velocity field. Our analysis is based on data collected by the Italian Panoramic Monocromator (IPM) mounted at the THEMIS telescope at the Spanish ``Observatorio del Teide'' (Tenerife) of the Instituto de Astrofisica de Canarias. We investigate the occurrence of
