  • The effect of the environment on the stellar mass-size relationship for present-day galaxies
In order to study how the environment can influence the relationship between the stellar mass and effective radius for nearby galaxies (z 0.12), we use a mass-complete sample extracted from the NYU-Value Added Galaxy Catalogue. This sample contains almost 232 000 objects with masses of up to 3 × 1011 M⊙. For every galaxy in our sample, we explore

  • The effective temperature scale of giant stars (F0-K5). I. The effective temperature determination by means of the IRFM
We have applied the InfraRed Flux Method (IRFM) to a sample of approximately 500 giant stars in order to derive their effective temperatures with an internal mean accuracy of about 1.5% and a maximum uncertainty in the zero point of the order of 0.9%. For the application of the IRFM, we have used a homogeneous grid of theoretical model atmosphere

  • The emission line shapes of the Seyfert 1 galaxy Mrk 817
The analysis of emission line region of Seyfert 1 galaxy Mrk 817 is presented. We found that emission line region in Mrk 817 is very complex. Moreover, the Narrow Line Region shows complex structure. The spectral line shapes of Mrk 817 indicates at least three kinematically separated regions, one (or more) which emits the broad line component (V

  • The empirical metallicity dependence of the mass-loss rate of O- and early B-type stars
We present a comprehensive study of the observational dependence of the mass-loss rate in stationary stellar winds of hot massive stars on the metal content of their atmospheres. The metal content of stars in the Magellanic Clouds is discussed, and a critical assessment is given of state-of-the-art mass-loss determinations of OB stars in these two

  • The Environment of Nearby Blue Compact Dwarf Galaxies
We are obtaining deep multiwavelength data of a sample of nearby blue compact dwarf galaxies (BCDGs) combining broad-band optical/NIR and Hα photometry, optical spectroscopy and 21-cm radio observations. Here we present HI results obtained with the Australia Telescope Compact Array for some BCDGs, all showing evident interaction features in their

  • The ESO Diffuse Interstellar Bands Large Exploration Survey (EDIBLES) . I. Project description, survey sample, and quality assessment
The carriers of the diffuse interstellar bands (DIBs) are largely unidentified molecules ubiquitously present in the interstellar medium (ISM). After decades of study, two strong and possibly three weak near-infrared DIBs have recently been attributed to the C60^+ fullerene based on observational and laboratory measurements. There is great promise
