  • Planck intermediate results. LI. Features in the cosmic microwave background temperature power spectrum and shifts in cosmological parameters
The six parameters of the standard ΛCDM model have best-fit values derived from the Planck temperature power spectrum that are shifted somewhat from the best-fit values derived from WMAP data. These shifts are driven by features in the Planck temperature power spectrum at angular scales that had never before been measured to cosmic-variance level

  • Planck intermediate results. LII. Planet flux densities
Measurements of flux density are described for five planets, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune, across the six Planck High Frequency Instrument frequency bands (100-857 GHz) and these are then compared with models and existing data. In our analysis, we have also included estimates of the brightness of Jupiter and Saturn at the three

  • Planet erosion by coronal radiation
According to theory, high energy emission from the coronae of cool stars can severely erode the atmosphere of orbiting planets. To test the long term effects of the erosion we study a large sample of planet-hosting stars observed in X-rays. The results reveal that massive planets (M_p sin i > 1.5 Mjup) may survive only if exposed to low accumulated

  • Planetary Nebula Abundances and Morphology: Probing the Chemical Evolution of the Milky Way
This paper presents a homogeneous study of abundances in a sample of 79 northern Galactic planetary nebulae (PNe) whose morphological classes have been uniformly determined. Ionic abundances and plasma diagnostics were derived from selected optical line strengths in the literature, and elemental abundances were estimated with the ionization

  • Planetary Nebula candidates in a region of M 33
We detect some objects that can be classified as planetary nebulae candidate s (PNc), using images of a southern region of M 33. This search is the deepest one made up to now in M 33. The search was made with narrow band filters centered on [O III], Hα and adjacent continua. We detect 48 PNc, from which 16 have a ratio of [O III]-to-Hα fluxes

  • Pleiades low-mass brown dwarfs: the cluster L dwarf sequence
Aims.We present a search for low-mass brown dwarfs in the Pleiades open cluster. The identification of Pleiades members fainter and cooler than those currently known allows us to constrain evolutionary models for L dwarfs and to extend the study of the cluster mass function to lower masses. Methods: .We conducted a 1.8 deg2 near-infrared J-band
