  • A OSIRIS/GTC emission-line survey of the rich cluster Cl0024+2654 at z = 0.4
In the framework of the GLACE project, we present the preliminary results of a mapping of emission lines (Hα+[NII], Hβ and [OIII]) in the rich cluster Cl0024+1654 at z=0.4, using the red tunable filter of OSIRIS/GTC. This emission-line survey has been designed to detect emission-line galaxies (ELGs) whose fluxes correspond to SFR up to 2 M_&sun;/yr

  • A Petal of the Sunflower: Photometry of the Stellar Tidal Stream in the Halo of Messier 63 (NGC 5055)
We present deep surface photometry of a very faint, giant arc-loop feature in the halo of the nearby spiral galaxy NGC 5055 (M63) that is consistent with being a part of a stellar stream resulting from the disruption of a dwarf satellite galaxy. This faint feature was first detected in early photographic studies by van der Kruit; more recently, in

  • A photometric monitoring of bright high-amplitude delta Scuti stars. I. The double-mode pulsation of V567 Ophiuchi
We present the first results of an observational project, which addresses the period changing behaviour of a sample of high-amplitude delta Scuti stars. In this paper we discuss the double-mode nature of V567 Ophiuchi. It was observed on 15 nights in two consecutive years in order to resolve the long-standing ambiguity related to its secondary

  • A photometric redshift of z = 1.8{+0.4}{-0.3} for the AGILE GRB 080514B
The AGILE gamma-ray burst GRB 080514B is the first detected to have emission above 30 MeV and an optical afterglow. However, no spectroscopic redshift for this burst is known. We report on our ground-based optical/NIR and millimeter follow-up observations of this event at several observatories, including the multi-channel imager GROND on La Silla

  • A Planetary Nebula around Nova V458 Vulpeculae Undergoing Flash Ionization
Nova V458 Vul erupted on 2007 August 8 and reached a visual magnitude of 8.1 a few days later. Hα images obtained 6 weeks before the outburst as part of the IPHAS Galactic plane survey reveal an 18th magnitude progenitor surrounded by an extended nebula. Subsequent images and spectroscopy of the nebula reveal an inner nebular knot increasing

  • A Planetary-Mass Companion to the K0 Giant HD 17092
We report the discovery of a substellar-mass companion to the K0 giant HD 17092 with the Hobby-Eberly Telescope. In the absence of any correlation of the observed 360 day periodicity with the standard indicators of stellar activity, the observed radial velocity variations are most plausibly explained in terms of a Keplerian motion of a planetary
