Descripción
CanariCam is the Day One mid-infrared imager for the Spanish 10 m Gran Telescopio Canarias (GTC). With its multimode options that allow spectroscopy, polarimetry, and coronography, it will be the most advanced and versatile mid-infrared instrument available to astronomers. As such, CanariCam will offer the Spanish scientific community a range of options that have never previously existed. CanariCam will offer capabilities that are generally superior to those of ISO, particularly in spatial resolution, and will permit Spanish scientists to carry out new and exciting science projects in many fields. This paper describes some of the possibilities that Canaricam offers for original science.
