  • NIRPS joining HARPS at ESO 3.6 m: On-sky performance and science objectives
Context. The Near-InfraRed Planet Searcher (NIRPS) is a high-resolution, high-stability near-infrared (NIR) spectrograph equipped with an adaptive optics (AO) system. Installed on the ESO 3.6-m telescope at La Silla Observatory, Chile, it was developed to enable radial velocity (RV) measurements of low-mass exoplanets around M dwarfs and to

  • NIRPS detection of delayed atmospheric escape from the warm and misaligned Saturn-mass exoplanet WASP-69 b
Context. Near-infrared high-resolution échelle spectrographs unlock access to fundamental properties of exoplanets, from their atmospheric escape and composition to their orbital architecture, which can all be studied simultaneously from transit observations. Aims. We present the first results of the newly commissioned ESO near-infrared

  • NIKA2 Cosmological Legacy Survey: Blind detection of galaxy clusters in the COSMOS field via the Sunyaev-Zel'dovich effect
Clusters of galaxies, formed in the latest stages of structure formation, are unique cosmological probes. With the advent of large CMB surveys like those from the Planck satellite, the ACT and SPT telescopes, we now have access to a large number of galaxy clusters detected at millimeter wavelengths via the thermal Sunyaev-Zel'dovich (tSZ) effect

  • Nickel- and iron-rich clumps in planetary nebulae: New discoveries and emission-line diagnostics
Context. Integral field spectroscopy (IFS) offers a distinct advantage for studying extended sources by enabling spatially resolved emission maps for several emission lines without the need for specific filters. Aims. This study aims to conduct a detailed analysis of iron and nickel emission lines in 12 planetary nebulae (PNe) using integral field

  • Nature of High Equivalent Width Emitters in the Epoch of Reionization Revealed by JWST Medium-band Imaging
Extreme emission line galaxies (EELGs) at high redshifts are considered key contributors to cosmic reionization at z > 6 due to their higher ionization efficiencies. We have identified 119 Hβ + [O III] emitters at z ∼ 7 selected by a flux excess in the medium-band filter F410M in the public James Webb Space Telescope Cycle-1 fields. Our emitters

  • Morphology across cosmic time: assessing the evolution and interplay of disc- and bulge-dominated galaxies in the CANDELS survey
We investigate the redshift evolution of disc- and bulge-dominated galaxies using a mass-complete sample of $\sim$14 000 galaxies from the CANDELS survey, selected with $H_{\rm mag} \le 24$, $M_{\rm stellar} \ge 10^9,{\rm M}_\odot$, and spanning $0.2 \le z \le 2.4$. Adopting an unbiased morphological classification, free from visual inspection or
