  • Gemini 3D spectroscopy of BAL+IR+FeII QSOs - II. IRAS 04505-2958, an explosive QSO with hypershells and a new scenario for galaxy formation and galaxy end phase
From a study of broad absorption line (BAL) + infrared (IR) + FeII quasi-stellar objects (QSOs) [using deep Gemini Multi-Object Spectrograph Integral Field Unit (GMOS-IFU) spectroscopy], new results are presented for IRAS 04505-2958. Specifically, we have studied in detail the outflow (OF) process at two large galactic scales: (i) two blobs/shells

  • From Shock Breakout to Peak and Beyond: Extensive Panchromatic Observations of the Type Ib Supernova 2008D Associated with Swift X-ray Transient 080109
We present extensive early photometric (ultraviolet through near-infrared) and spectroscopic (optical and near-infrared) data on supernova (SN) 2008D as well as X-ray data analysis on the associated Swift X-ray transient (XRT) 080109. Our data span a time range of 5 hr before the detection of the X-ray transient to 150 days after its detection, and

  • Estimation of adaptive optics parameters from wind speed: results for the Teide Observatory
The development of adaptive optics systems for projects related to large telescopes demands a proper knowledge of the atmospheric turbulence. Due to the lack of long-term information on optical turbulence, high-altitude winds (in particular winds at the 200-mbar pressure level) were adopted as a parameter for estimating the total turbulence at a

  • Erratum: The VLT-FLAMES survey of massive stars: atmospheric parameters and rotational velocity distributions for B-type stars in the Magellanic Clouds
We correct the estimates of the dispersions in the rotational velocities for early-type stars in our Galaxy (Dufton et al. 2006, A&A, 457, 265) and the Magellanic Clouds (Hunter et al. 2008, A&A, 479, 541). The corrected values are π1/4 (i.e. approximately 33%) larger than those published in the original papers.
