  • On the Extreme Stationary Outflows from Super Star Clusters: From Superwinds to Supernebulae and Further Massive Star Formation
Here we discuss the properties of star cluster winds in the supercritical, catastrophic cooling regime. We demonstrate that catastrophic cooling inhibits superwinds and that after a rapid phase of accumulation of the ejected material within the star-forming volume, a new stationary isothermal regime, supported by the ionizing radiation from the

  • New Optical Observations of XTE J1118+480
We report on new R-band photometry of the outbursting black hole candidate XTE J1118+480 (ATEL #383, #384) obtained with the 4.2m WHT at the Observatorio del Roque de los Muchachos (La Palma) and with the FLWO 1.2m telescope on Mt. Hopkins. We measure the following average magnitudes: Feb 20.19 (UT), R=16.94 +/- 0.06; Feb 21.18, R=17.41 +/- 0.06

  • Modelling astronomical adaptive optics - I. The software package CAOS
The software package CAOS (code for adaptive optics systems) described in this paper is a software ensemble of modules designed for end-to-end simulation of generic astronomical adaptive optics (AO) systems, including a complete atmosphere turbulence model, sodium laser-guide star upward and downward propagation, observed object definition, Shack

  • Line formation in solar granulation. VI. [C I], C I, CH and C2 lines and the photospheric C abundance
The solar photospheric carbon abundance has been determined from [C I], C I, CH vibration-rotation, CH A-X electronic and C2 Swan electronic lines by means of a time-dependent, 3D, hydrodynamical model of the solar atmosphere. Departures from LTE have been considered for the C I lines. These turned out to be of increasing importance for stronger
