  • CCD Hα and R photometry of 334 galaxies (James+, 2004)
Hα plus [NII] and R-band CCD photometry and derived parameters are presented for the full sample of 334 spiral and irregular galaxies. Galaxy distances are derived using a Virgo-infall corrected model which is described in the paper, and star formation rates are derived from Hα plus [NII] fluxes using the conversion defined by Kennicutt et al.

  • Asteroseismology of the β Cephei star ν Eridani - II. Spectroscopic observations and pulsational frequency analysis
We undertook a multisite spectroscopic campaign for the β Cephei star ν Eridani. A total of 2294 high-resolution spectra were obtained from telescopes at 11 different observatories around the world. The time base of dedicated multisite observations is 88 d. To this data set we have added 148 older, previously unpublished spectra, such that the

  • An approach to Eddington science using OMC integral data
The Eddington mission has two primary scientific goals: the study of stellar structure and evolution, and the search of habitable planets. The first one, based on asteroseismology techniques, is our interest. The goal here is to measure oscillations frequencies for as many modes as possible for a sample of stars whose masses, ages and chemical

  • An active M8.5 dwarf wide companion to the M4/DA binary LHS 4039/LHS 4040
Low-mass and brown dwarfs have recently been found as wide companions to many nearby stars, formerly believed to be single. Wide binaries are usually found as common proper motion pairs. Sometimes, more than two objects share the same large proper motion, identifying them as nearby systems. We have found a third, low-mass component to a known wide

  • Abundances in Stars with Exoplanets
Extensive spectroscopic studies of stars with and without planets have concluded that stars hosting planets are significantly more metal-rich than those without planets. More subtle trends of different chemical elements begin to appear as the number of detected extrasolar planetary systems continues to grow. I review our current knowledge
