  • Spatially resolved spectroscopy of WR ring nebulae. I - NGC 2359 and RCW 78
We report detailed spatially resolved spectroscopy of the WR nebulae NGC 2359 and RCW 78 surrounding the WN 5 HD 56925 and WN 8 HD 117688 stars. The aim of this work has been to study possible abundance inhomogeneities and the ionization structure of the nebulae, as well as to derive reliable values for the degree of self-enrichment. In NGC 2359

  • Simultaneous observations of the symbiotic star BF Cygni
Simultaneous ultraviolet/optical spectrophotometry and infrared photometry for the low excitation symbiotic star BF Cygni are presented. The analysis of the data suggests that three different components are present in the UV to IR energy distribution. A hot subdwarf with R = 0.48 solar radius and T not less than 60,000 K if the distance is 2.3 kpc

  • Rapid variations and a very deep minimum in the light curve of 3C 345
This paper reports CCD photometry of 3C345 taken in the summer of 1988 and spring of 1989 which show this object declining to the faintest magnitude yet recorded in B, of 18.32. A full light curve is presented, as well as an intraday and a three-week continuous light curve. Rapid CCD photometry at this faint level reveals the presence of a rapid

  • Optical observations of galaxies containing radio jets - A catalog of sources with redshift smaller than 0.15
CCD imaging of 47 radio sources from the Bridle and Perley list of galaxies with radio jets is reported. All the observed galaxies are within the redshift range z = 0.01 - 0.15 and are constrained in position to delta - 15 deg or greater. The observations and the reduction procedure are described. Contour maps of all the sources are presented

  • Linewidths of low-degree acoustic modes of the sun
    Estimates of the spectral linewidths of low degree (l = 0 and l = 1), 5-min p-modes obtained from Doppler shift observations in 1984 (63 d) and 1986 (63 d) are reported. The observed linewidths increase from 0.5 micro-Hz at 2000 micro-Hz to 3 micro-Hz at 3800 micro-Hz for l = 0. Comparison with other data suggests that for a given frequency the

  • Interaction versus radio source generation - The properties of radio jet parent galaxies
This paper presents the first systematic survey at optical wavelengths of galaxies with detected radio jets using CCD imaging. About 50 percent of the sample of low-redshift galaxies with radio jets have a large nearby companion and/or show peculiar optical morphology not detected in isolated ellipticals. Forty-five percent of the objects have a
