  • Validation of up to seven TESS planet candidates through multi-colour transit photometry using MuSCAT2 data
The TESS mission searches for transiting exoplanets by monitoring the brightness of hundreds of thousands of stars across the entire sky. M-type planet hosts are ideal targets for this mission due to their smaller size and cooler temperatures, which makes it easier to detect smaller planets near or within their habitable zones. Additionally, M

  • Validating full-spectrum fitting with a synthetic integral-field spectroscopic observation of the Milky Way
Ongoing deep integral-field spectroscopy (IFS) observations of disc galaxies provide opportunities for comparison with the Milky Way (MW) to understand galaxy evolution. However, such comparisons are marred by many challenges such as selection effects, differences in observations and methodology, and proper validation of full-spectrum fitting

  • Unveiling the chemical fingerprint of phosphorus-rich stars: II. Heavy-element abundances from UVES/VLT spectra
Context. The atmospheres of phosphorus-rich (P-rich) stars have been shown to contain between 10 and 100 times more P than our Sun. Given its crucial role as an essential element for life, it is especially necessary to uncover the origin of P-rich stars to gain insights into the still unknown nucleosynthetic formation pathways of P in our Galaxy

  • Unveiling Chiron, an odd ice ball, with Webb: Ice and Gas Phases Revealed
We present unprecedented findings on (2060) Chiron using James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) NIRSpec imaging and spectroscopy from cycle 1 GTO program 1273. Our study (Pinilla-Alonso et al. 2024 A&A Letter) marks the first detection of carbon dioxide (CO 2) and methane (CH 4) active outgassing and coma emission at heliocentric distances of ~18 au

  • Two black widow pulsars in the optical and X-rays
Context. Two millisecond pulsars, PSR J1513‑2550 and PSR J2017‑1614, with spin periods of about 2.1 and 2.3 ms were recently discovered in the radio and γ-rays and classified as black widow pulsars in tight binary stellar systems with orbital periods of about 4.3 and 2.3 h. Aims. Our goals are to reveal the fundamental parameters of both systems

  • TOI-2379 b and TOI-2384 b: two super-Jupiter mass planets transiting low-mass host stars
Short-period gas giant planets have been shown to be significantly rarer for host stars less massive than the Sun. We report the discovery of two transiting giant planets - TOI-2379 b and TOI-2384 b - with low-mass (early M) host stars. Both planets were detected using Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite photometry and for both the transit signal
