Julissa Reynoso, US Ambassador to Spain, together with other members of her team, visited yesterday the headquarters of the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC) in La Laguna, accompanied by Rafael Rebolo, Director of the IAC.
During their tour of the facilities, they were briefed on the various research programmes and technology projects under development. They also received a dossier on all the ongoing collaborations with US research centres and possible projects still under negotiation, such as the Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT) and the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT).
The Consul General of the Embassy of the United States in Madrid, Liza Petrush, and the Consular Agent in the Canary Islands, Ana María Quintana, recently visited the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias in La Laguna, accompanied by the director of the IAC, Rafael Rebolo, in order to know the ongoing collaborative projects and the current situation regarding the Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT). His visit coincided with that of Dr. Nancy Levenson, deputy director of the Space Telescope Science Institute in the United States.
The Japanese ambassador to Spain, Kenji Kiramatsu, yesterday visited the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC) and the Canary Island Observatories, together with Masahiro Aoki, secretary to the Embassy, Yoshihiro Miwa, the consul of Japan in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and Josep Piqué Camps, President of the Council of the Spain Japan Foundation.
