The Japanese physicist Takaaki Kajita is one of the leading world experts in neutrino physics. These particles have a very tiny mass, and they hardly interact with other kinds of matter. A group of researchers from the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC) has clarified one of the mysteries of 2018 in the field of extragalactic astrophysics: the supposed existence of a galaxy without dark matter.

Last Tuesday, in the Tenerife Space for the Arts (TEA) in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the IAC celebrated the XI edition of the Day of Our Science, an annual meting at which the personnel present, for internal consumption, the latest novelties in its work, in research, technological development, and outreach, in order to promote discussions and collaborations between the different study groups and divisions of the Institute.

“The message of light” is the theme chosen for the fifth edition of this teacher training course, organized by the IAC, which will be held from 15 to 19 July in La Laguna (Tenerife). Registration is free for the Spanish educational community and will remain open until 25 June 25th or until full capacity is reached.

76 educational centres in Tenerife have participated in the activities of this project which will continue during the next three years to train the teachers in the Island to put astronomy into their classrooms.
