An algorithm developed by the Spanish IAC researcher Sebastián Hidalgo will be used for the first time at the international distributed computing event “Gobal Azure Bootcamp”, aimed at getting thousands of people around the world to contribute to the improvement of the analysis of the star formation processes in galaxies.

This innovative educational project, whose name gives a nod to the Canarian municipality of Tïas, is a pilot experiment for the 2nd year of primary education in which scientists from the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias and the University of La Laguna are collaborating.

The discoverers, students at the El Calero Institute of Secondary Education (IES), who participe in the Educational Project with Robotic Telescopes (PETER) coordinated by the IAC, are the youngest people in formal education who have made a discovery of this type.
