  • Nuclear 11.3 μm PAH emission in local active galactic nuclei
We present Gran Telescopio CANARIAS CanariCam 8.7 μm imaging and 7.5-13 μm spectroscopy of six local systems known to host an active galactic nucleus (AGN) and have nuclear star formation. Our main goal is to investigate whether the molecules responsible for the 11.3 μm polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) feature are destroyed in the close

  • Nuclear Spectra of Comet 162P/Siding Spring (2004 TU12)
We present visible and near-IR spectra of the nucleus of comet 162P/Siding Spring (also known as 2004 TU12) obtained in 2004 December, while it had no detectable coma. This is the third object observed to have intermittent cometary activity even when relatively close to the Sun. The spectra show no strong features in this wavelength range. This

  • Nucleon-Nucleon and Pion-Nucleon Potentials from Phase Shifts using Quantum Inversion
NN and Pi-N partial wave radial potentials have been generated using the latest SM94-VPI(NN) and FA93-VPI(Pi-N) phase shifts. The potentials are used to determine the deuteron properties and to compute the 3H and 3He binding energies. The e_1 mixing angles of SM94-VPI and NY93-Nijmegen differ significantly and inversion potentials yield a P_d of 6

  • Nucleosynthesis in the Vela region
The detection of 1.809 MeV gamma-ray line emission from the Vela region by the COMPTEL telescope presents a direct prove of recent nucleosynthesis activity in this region. It has been suggested that the observed 1.809 MeV emisson could arise from the radioactive decay of 26Al produced by the Vela SNR and/or the nearby Wolf-Rayet star γ2 Vel

  • Observation and Interpretation of Leonid Impact Flashes on the Moon in 2001
We present observations of lunar Leonid impact flashes recorded in 2001 November from Spain. Four impact flashes were detected on November 18. Another flash was also recorded on the same night, which appears to be impact related, and two more on that night are possibly, but not unambiguously, of impact nature. On November 19 another flash was

  • Observational constraints to boxy/peanut bulge formation time
Boxy/peanut bulges are considered to be part of the same stellar structure as bars and both could be linked through the buckling instability. The Milky Way is our closest example. The goal of this Letter is to determine if the mass assembly of the different components leaves an imprint in their stellar populations allowing the estimation the time
