  • Self-consistent models for Coulomb heated X-ray pulsar atmospheres
Calculations of accreting magnetized neutron star atmospheres heated by the gradual deceleration of protons via Coulomb collisions are presented. Self consistent determinations of the temperature and density structure for different accretion rates are made by assuming hydrostatic equilibrium and energy balance, coupled with radiative transfer. • Serial nominations for the AWH initiative: the paradigm of seven-stone antas and beyond
Seven-stone antas are a group of megalithic monuments that were built in the southwest of the Iberian Peninsula for a period of some one thousand years in the 4th millennium B.C. They were constructed with a pattern of orientations that certainly situate them among the oldest monuments on Earth with undisputable astronomical orientations. They were

  • Sher 25: pulsating but apparently alone
The blue supergiant Sher 25 is surrounded by an asymmetric, hourglass-shaped circumstellar nebula, which shows similarities to the triple-ring structure seen around SN 1987A. From optical spectroscopy over six consecutive nights, we detect periodic radial velocity variations in the stellar spectrum of Sher 25 with a peak-to-peak amplitude of ˜12 km

  • Signatures of Granulation in the Spectra of K-Dwarfs
Very high resolution (R>150,000) spectra of a small sample of nearby K-dwarfs have been acquired to measure the line asymmetries and central wavelength shifts caused by convective motions present in stellar photospheres. This phenomenon of granulation is modeled by 3D hydrodynamical simulations but they need to be confronted with accurate

  • Silicate Evolution in Brown Dwarf Disks
We present a compositional analysis of the 10 μm silicate spectra for brown dwarf disks in the Taurus and Upper Scorpius (UppSco) star-forming regions, using archival Spitzer/Infrared Spectrograph observations. A variety in the silicate features is observed, ranging from a narrow profile with a peak at 9.8 μm, to nearly flat, low-contrast features

  • Simultaneous Multiwavelength Observations of Dwarf Novae. I. SU Ursae Majoris: Minihumps at a Minioutburst?
SU Ursae Majoris the prototype of a subgroup of dwarf novae that display superhumps in super- outbursts has been observed during an international campaign dedicated to the observation of the first day of outburst of dwarf novae during 1986 February. After the start of a brightening was reported, the star was monitored by IUE, ground-based
