  • Comparing the DES-SN5YR and Pantheon+ SN cosmology analyses: investigation based on 'evolving dark energy or supernovae systematics'?
Recent cosmological analyses measuring distances of type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) and baryon acoustic oscillations (BAO) have all given similar hints at time-evolving dark energy. To examine whether underestimated SN Ia systematics might be driving these results, Efstathiou (2025) compared overlapping SN events between Pantheon+ and DES-SN5YR (20 per

  • Analysing quasar microlensing light curves with machine learning
We introduce (and test on real data) a new method based on Machine Learning techniques to quantitatively analyse observed microlensing light curves of lensed quasars. The method is aimed at providing a fast and robust procedure to estimate physical parameters from observed light curves, in order to be easily applied to the large quantities of light

  • A Multi-wavelength Characterization of the 2023 Outburst of MAXI J1807+132: Manifestations of Disk Instability and Jet Emission
Several phenomenological aspects of low-luminosity neutron star transients, such as atolls, remain poorly understood. One such source, MAXI J1807+132, entered its latest outburst in 2023 July. To thoroughly characterize this outburst, we conducted an extensive observational campaign spanning radio to X-ray wavelengths. Here we present the results

  • TP-AGB stars and stellar population properties of a post-starburst galaxy at z ∼ 2 through optical and near-infrared spectroscopy with JWST
We present a detailed optical and near-IR (NIR) spectral analysis of J-138717, a post-starburst galaxy at z = 1.8845 observed with JWST/NIRSpec, for which we derive a stellar mass of 3.5±0.2×10 10 M ⊙ and a stellar velocity dispersion of 198±10 km s ‑1. We estimate an age of ∼0.9 Gyr and a subsolar metallicity (between ‑0.4 and ‑0.2 dex). We find

  • TOI-2407 b: a warm Neptune in the desert
We present the validation of TOI-2407 b, a warm Neptune-sized planet with a radius of $4.26\pm 0.26$ R $_{\oplus }$, orbiting an early M-type star with a period of 2.7 d and an equilibrium temperature of $705\pm 12$ K. The planet was identified by Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) photometry and validated in this work through

  • The uncertainty of magnetic fields in 3D non-local thermodynamic equilibrium inversions
We describe our approach to solving the problem of ensuring the solenoidality of the magnetic field vector in 3D inversions, as well as the estimation of the uncertainty in the inferred magnetic field. The solenoidality of the magnetic field vector is often disregarded in the inversion of spectropolarimetric data due to limitations in the
