  • The Fundamental Plane for early-type galaxies: dependence on the magnitude range
Studying three samples of early-type galaxies, which include approximately 8800 galaxies and cover a relatively ample magnitude range ( ~ 5.5mag), we find that the coefficients as well as the intrinsic dispersion of the Fundamental Plane depend on the width and brightness of the magnitude range within which the galaxies are distributed. We analyse

  • The Chemical Abundances of Tycho G in Supernova Remnant 1572
We present an analysis of the chemical abundances of the star Tycho G in the direction of the remnant of supernova (SN) 1572, based on Keck high-resolution optical spectra. The stellar parameters of this star are found to be those of a G-type subgiant with T eff = 5900 ± 100 K, log(g/cms2) = 3.85 ± 0.30 dex, and [Fe/H] = -0.05 ± 0.09. This

  • The Bright Galaxy Population of Five Medium Redshift Clusters. Quantitative Morphology.
Following the study already presented in our previous work, based on the Nordic Optical Telescope (NOT) sample, which consists on five clusters of galaxies within the redshift range 0.15$

  • The Assembly of Galaxy Clusters
We study the formation of 53 galaxy cluster-size dark matter halos (M = 1014.0-14.76 M sun) formed within a pair of cosmological Λ cold dark matter N-body simulations, and track the accretion histories of cluster subhalos with masses large enough to host ~0.3 L * galaxies. By associating subhalos with cluster galaxies, we find the majority of

  • The ACS Survey of Galactic Globular Clusters. VI. NGC 6366: A Heavily Stripped Galactic Globular Cluster
We have used observations obtained as part of the Hubble Space Telescope/ACS Survey of Galactic globular clusters (GCs) to construct a color-magnitude diagram for the bulge cluster, NGC 6366. The luminosity function derived from those data extends to M F606W ~ 9, or masses of ~0.3 M sun. Unlike most GCs, the mass function peaks near the main
