  • Deciphering Solar Coronal Heating: Energizing Small-scale Loops through Surface Convection
The solar atmosphere is filled with clusters of hot small-scale loops commonly known as coronal bright points (CBPs). These ubiquitous structures stand out in the Sun by their strong X-ray and/or extreme-ultraviolet (EUV) emission for hours to days, which makes them a crucial piece when solving the solar coronal heating puzzle. In addition, they

  • Cluster Ages to Reconstruct the Milky Way Assembly (CARMA). I. The final word on the origin of NGC 6388 and NGC 6441
We present CARMA, the Cluster Ages to Reconstruct the Milky Way Assembly project, the aim of which is to determine precise and accurate age measurements for the entire system of known Galactic globular clusters (GCs) and to use them to trace the most significant merger events experienced by the Milky Way. The strength of CARMA relies on the use of

  • Chemical Analysis of the Brightest Star of the Cetus II Ultrafaint Dwarf Galaxy Candidate
We present a detailed chemical abundance analysis of the brightest star in the ultrafaint dwarf (UFD) galaxy candidate Cetus II from high-resolution Magellan/MIKE spectra. For this star, DES J011740.53-173053, abundances or upper limits of 18 elements from carbon to europium are derived. Its chemical abundances generally follow those of other UFD

  • Bridging the gap in the mass-size relation of compact galaxies with MaNGA
We present the analysis of the full Mapping Nearby Galaxies at APO (MaNGA) DR17 sample to characterize its population of compact galaxies. We focus on galaxies that fill the stellar mass (M ⋆) gap between compact elliptical galaxies (cEs; 8 ≲ log (M ⋆/M ⊙) ≲ 10) and compact massive galaxies (CMGs; 10 ≲ log (M ⋆/M ⊙)). We study their stellar

  • Black hole masses for 14 gravitationally lensed quasars
Aims: We have estimated black hole masses (M BH) for 14 gravitationally lensed quasars using Balmer lines; we also provide estimates based on MgII and CIV emission lines for four and two of them, respectively. We compared these estimates to results obtained for other lensed quasars. Methods: We used spectroscopic data from the Large Binocular

  • Beyond the 3rd moment: a practical study of using lensing convergence CDFs for cosmology with DES Y3
Widefield surveys probe clustered scalar fields - such as galaxy counts, lensing potential, etc. - which are sensitive to different cosmological and astrophysical processes. Constraining such processes depends on the statistics that summarize the field. We explore the cumulative distribution function (CDF) as a summary of the galaxy lensing
