  • JWST Observations of Potentially Hazardous Asteroid 2024 YR4
The destructive power of an impacting asteroid is primarily estimated by knowledge of its size. Asteroid 2024 YR4 reached a peak 2032 impact probability with Earth of 3%, motivating a desire to determine its size. Owing to its infrared capabilities, JWST is uniquely suited for such assessment, especially for decameter-scale objects. We used JWST to

  • Jormungandr: A Large Substructure Circling the Milky Way Identified from Gaia DR3 Data
We report the discovery of a large substructure in the Milky Way passing through the solar neighborhood, detected in actions calculated from Gaia DR3 data. We perform extensive tests to evaluate the selection effects present in the sample and conclude that they cannot produce an artifact with the same characteristics. This substructure, which we

  • Interacting dark sector within ETHOS: Cosmological constraints from SPT cluster abundance with DES and HST weak lensing data
We use galaxy cluster abundance measurements from the South Pole Telescope enhanced by multicomponent matched filter confirmation and complemented with mass information obtained using weak-lensing data from Dark Energy Survey Year 3 (DES Y3) and targeted Hubble Space Telescope observations for probing deviations from the cold dark matter paradigm

  • In-depth characterization of the Kepler-10 three-planet system with HARPS-N radial velocities and Kepler transit timing variations
    The old G3V star Kepler-10 is known to host two transiting planets, the ultra-short-period super-Earth Kepler-10 b (P b = 0.837 d; R b = 1.47 R ⊕) and the long-period sub-Neptune Kepler-10 c (P c = 45.294 d; R c = 2.35 R ⊕), and a non-transiting planet that causes variations in the Kepler-10 c transit times. Measurements of the mass of Kepler-10 c

  • Improving the stellar age determination through joint modeling of binarity and asteroseismology: Grid modeling of the seismic red giant binary KIC 9163796
Context. The typical uncertainties of ages determined for single star giants from isochrone fitting using single-epoch spectroscopy and photometry without any additional constraints are 30–50%. Binary systems, particularly double-lined spectroscopic binaries, provide an opportunity to study the intricacies of internal stellar physics and better

  • High energy radiation induced degradation of poly(lactic acid) (PLLA) film: radiation chemical yield, kinetics, mechanism and radioracemization evidences
The chain scission radiation chemical yield G(S) of irradiated PLLA films has been calculated directly from the ketone absorption band of its FT-IR spectra recorded at different absorbed dose. The maximum value G(S) = 2.85 ± 0.1 scission/100 eV was determined at 100 kGy, in excellent agreement with previously reported G(S) but determined from CO 2
