  • Presentation of the reduction pipeline of the SONG échelle spectrograph
We give an overview of the spectral reduction pipeline that will be used to process the data of the échelle spectrograph of the SONG-OT telescope node of the SONG (Stellar Observations Network Group) network on Tenerife. In particular, we focus on the iodine absorption cell technique to derive precise radial velocity measurements. The telescope and

  • Principal-component analysis of two-particle azimuthal correlations in PbPb and p Pb collisions at CMS
For the first time a principle-component analysis is used to separate out different orthogonal modes of the two-particle correlation matrix from heavy ion collisions. The analysis uses data from √{sNN}=2.76 TeV PbPb and √{sNN}=5.02 TeV p Pb collisions collected by the CMS experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. Two-particle azimuthal

  • Probing the high-redshift universe with SPICA: Toward the epoch of reionisation and beyond
With the recent discovery of a dozen dusty star-forming galaxies and around 30 quasars at z > 5 that are hyper-luminous in the infrared (μ L IR > 1013 L⊙, where μ is a lensing magnification factor), the possibility has opened up for SPICA, the proposed ESA M5 mid-/far-infrared mission, to extend its spectroscopic studies toward the epoch of

  • Processing of stellar spectrograms digitized by means of the PDS 1010A microdensitometer - The ELSPEC/1 software package
The software package ELSPEC/1 written at Trieste Astronomical Observatory for the automatic reduction of spectrograms digitized by a PDS 1010A microdensitometer is described and an example of the results obtained is shown. The package accepts spectrograms in the format of the Observatoire de Hauts Provence and operates on a HP 2100A minicomputer.

  • Progress Report: Probabilistic and Statistical Bases of Surface Brightness Fluctuations
The surface brightness fluctuations (SBF) method is a statistical method applied on image pixels in different bands. This contribution aims to distinguish between the observational (statistical) method and the theoretical (probabilistic) method based on stellar population synthesis and needed for the calibration of observational SBF. We find that
