Description
On 27 April, the US and European space agencies celebrated the fifth anniversary of the launch of the SOHO satellite by organising the International Sun-Earth Day. The Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC) participated in this initiative by launching a solar physics outreach campaign with the slogan "The Sun, the star of our life". This campaign consisted of a series of activities for the general public that took place on 27 and 28 April. The IAC, in collaboration with the Department of Astrophysics of the University of La Laguna (ULL) and the Museum of Science and Cosmos, thus joined the effort of simultaneous dissemination in educational centers, museums, planetariums, etc. in Europe and the United States, aimed at extending to society the knowledge of the Sun, its influence on life on Earth and its study from observatories on earth and in space. The campaign included the dissemination of a series of articles signed by specialists in the study of the Sun, which were published in local and national press and are reproduced in this special supplement dedicated to the International Sun-Earth Day.
