The Gran Telescopio Canarias(GTC), on the point of completing 10 years of scientific operation, is still the largest optical and infrared telescope in the world. This status will be maintained until at least 2025 when the new generation of very large telescopes will start operating. The astrophyisicist Romano Corradi, its director since 2016 and an expert in planetary nebulae, gave a review of the present and future of this “singular infrastructure” during the VI Conference on Science with the GTC, which was held in Valencia.

The IAC is a member of the consortium of this instrument, which has passed its critical tests, and incorporates a powerfuls system of adaptive optics which will help it to correct the atmospheric turbulence above the future 39m telescope.

El Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC), el Grupo Hospiten y la Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) han abierto una línea de trabajo colaborativo que estudia la aplicación de tecnología astrofísica en el diagnóstico y evaluación de lesiones de pie diabético.

A study led jointly by a researcher at the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC) detects a faint stellar glow which is distributed in virtually the same way as the dark matter in deep observations of six clusters using the Hubble Space Telescope.
