PKS 1441+25, half-way between the Big Bang and us, will help to explain the evolution of stars and galaxies for the second half of the lifetime of the Universe.

Every year at about this date the Earth in its orbit round the Sun meets up with a stream of particles from the asteroid 3200 Phaeton, which produces the meteor shower known as the Geminids. A telescope is an optical system which collects a lot of light and allows us to “see” objects as if they were much nearer. An astronomical instrument is a very precise tool which analyzes the light, and without this the telescope cannot carry out high level science. For this reason OSIRIS, CanariCam, EMIR, FRIDA and MIRADAS were guests of honor at the “Science with the GTC” conference celebrated in Puebla (Mexico).
