    Con motivo del 30 aniversario de la aprobación de la Ley del Cielo, el próximo miércoles, 7 de noviembre, el IAC y el equipo del Telescopio de Treinta Metros organizan un evento en el municipio palmero de Los Llanos de Aridane. Paralelamente a una fiesta de las estrellas, “Acércate a tu cielo”, que consistirá en un encuentro popular de observación astronómica y chocolatada, se añadirá una mesa redonda sobre “El valor del cielo de La Palma”, precedida de una apertura oficial.

  • Geminids
    This astronomical event will be visible from both northern and southern hemispheres, and the peak of its activity will be during the nights of Thursday 13th and Friday 14th December. During the second night there will be a direct broadcats from the Teide Observatory (Tenerife) thanks to the collaboration of the European project STAR4ALL.

    After two years travelling through space, the NASA OSIRIS-REx spacecraft has started to obtain images of the mission target, primitive asteroid Bennu. As part of the Scientific Team of this mission, researchers from the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC), Javier Licandro and Julia de León have already started to work in the calibration of this images in preparation for the ones that will be obtained in December 2018 using color filters.

    On October 31st 1988 just 30 year ago today, the Spanish Government passed the Law for the Protection of the Astronomical Quality of the Observatories of the IAC, which became the first national law for protection of the sky in any country in the world.
