The Nobel Laureate for Literature, Mario Vargas Llosa, accompanied by his partner Isabel Preysler, visited the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory (Garafía, La Palma) as part of the project of the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC) “In a certain place in the Universe….”

Florian Lennert, Associate Director of the London School of Economics (LSE) and Frank Wenecke, founder of the German Company Dronemasters, have toured the installations of the Headquarters of the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC) in La Laguna to get to know at close quarters the work of the IAC, and its company for technological and commercial cooperation IACTEC.

"The stars and their planets" is the theme chosen for the fourth edition of this training course, designed for school teachers, which will be held from 30th July to 3rd August, at the IAC Headquarters in La Laguna (Tenerife ). Registration is free for Spanish teachers, and will remain open until July 15th or until the places are filled.

Solar physicists from throughout Europe will be meeting this week to discuss the scientific needs of the future European Solar Telescope (EST) whose installation is foreseen in one of the Canary Island Observatories: the Teide Observatory (Izaña, Tenerife) or the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory (Garafía, La Palma).

The Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC) and the University of Oviedo present today the discovery of two new planetary systems, one of them hosting three planets with the same size of the Earth.

Scientists from the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC) and the University of Cambridge have observed with the Gran Telescopio Canarias (GTC) a rare gaseous planet, with partly clear skies, and strong signatures of alkali metals in its atmosphere.
