Description
This volume contains the eight courses which were delivered during the School. The aim of the lectures was to portray a thorough view of our present knowledge on the formation and evolution of galaxies. Topics include the formation of large-scale structure, clustering of galaxies and the morphological and chemical outcome of galaxy interactions and mergers. The formation of the Local Group and of our own Galaxy is also reviewed in the light of the most recent and complete observations.
