Description
Meridional circulation from the equator to the poles is found by applying ring diagram analysis to helioseismic data. The data are SOI/MDI Dopplergrams taken every minute during its Dynamics Program in 1996. The time span used in this work is about 50 hours (~3000 images). Studying sections of 15x15 degrees over the solar surface centered at latitudes 0-circ, plus or minus 10-circ, plus or minus 15-circ, plus or minus 20-circ, plus or minus 30-circ, plus or minus 40-circ, plus or minus 50-circ, and Carrington longitudes 90-circ and 105-circ, the latitudinal component of the horizontal velocity fields shows a remarkable meridional behavior between 0.97 r/Rodot and the surface. There is no evidence in this depth range of the return path of these meridional flows from the poles to the equator. The temporal stability of these flows is also discussed by comparing with the results from the synoptic map presented elsewhere in this conference.
