  • Discovery of 10 mHz quasi-periodic oscillations likely from IGR J17091-3624
We report the discovery of ~10 mHz quasi-periodic oscillations (QPOs) in a 3.5 ks RXTE observation of the black hole candidate IGR J17091-3624 (ATELs #3144, #3159, #3167, #3203) on March 14th 2011 (MJD 55634.66). Only PCU2 was active, with an average 2-60 keV background-corrected count rate of 110 counts/s. The QPO is visible by eye in the light

  • Correlated optical/X-ray long-term variability in LMXB 4U 1636-536
We have conducted a 3-month programme of simultaneous optical, soft and hard X-ray monitoring of the LMXB 4U 1636-536/V801 Ara using the SMARTS 1.3-m telescope and archival RXTE/ASM and Swift/XRT data. 4U 1636-536 has been exhibiting a large amplitude, quasi-periodic variability since 2002 when its X-ray flux dramatically declined by roughly an

  • Constraints on the Polarization of the Anomalous Microwave Emission in the Perseus Molecular Complex from Seven-year WMAP Data
We have used the seven-year Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP) data in order to update the measurements of the intensity signal in the G159.6-18.5 region within the Perseus molecular complex and to set constraints on the polarization level of the anomalous microwave emission in the frequency range where this emission is dominant. • Black hole masses and starbursts in X-shaped radio sources
It has been suggested that the X-shaped morphology observed in some radio sources can reflect either a recent merger of two supermassive black holes (SMBHs) or the presence of a second active black hole in the galactic nucleus. These scenarios are tested by studying the relationship between the black hole mass, radio and optical luminosity
