    Para conseguir los objetivos, PLATO estará equipado con 26 telescopios de pequeño formato, cada uno de ellos con 4 detectores tipo CCD con un total de 80 millones de píxeles. PLATO observará las mismas estrellas durante largos periodos, de hasta 3 años, desde su posición orbital en el punto de Lagrange L2, a 1,5 millones de km de la Tierra.
