In the framework of the STARMUS festival, the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias received the visit of Dr. Matt Mountain, current president of the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy (AURA), and former director of the Gemini observatory and the Space Telescope Science Institute (STScl).

During his visit to Tenerife, Mountain had an informal meeting with the scientific community of the IAC, especially with the younger research staff: PhD students, postdoctoral researchers and researchers with Ramon y Cajal contracts.

The meeting, which took place in the institution's lecture hall, was introduced by Valentín Martínez Pillet, director of the IAC and a former colleague of Mountain. After a brief presentation, an open dialogue ensued between Matt and the attendees.

This type of meeting reinforces the IAC's commitment to the training and professional development of new generations of scientists, creating opportunities for exchange with key figures in international astronomy.
