    A conference celebrates 60 years in astrophysics by IAC researcher John Beckman
    On November 6th and 7th a meeting will be held in the Museum of Science and the Cosmos in La Laguna, to celebrate the dedication to astrophysics during 60 years of John Beckman, Emeritus Research Professor of the IAC. Among those present will be scientists who have collaborated with him, and some of his doctoral students, who include the present Director of the IAC, Rafael Rebolo López, and the Deputy Director, Casiana Muñoz Tuñón. John arrived at the Institute in 1984, invited by the Director at that time, Francisco Sanchez Martínez, and the Professor of Astrophysics Carlos Sánchez Magro

    The Local Group as a benchmark for Galaxy Evolution, on IAC Winter School
    La XXXIV Canary Islands Winter School of Astrophysics, organizada por el Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC) y la Universidad de La Laguna (ULL), tendrá lugar entre los días 8 y 15 de noviembre. En esta edición, cerca de 60 estudiantes de 15 países se reunirán para conocer los últimos avances en el campo de la evolución de galaxias, con el Grupo Local como punto de referencia.     The President of the Canary Islands Government, Fernando Clavijo, visited the IACTEC facilities this Friday, the technological and business collaboration space of the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC), to gain first-hand knowledge of the projects being developed and to give his support to the work underway. During the visit, the President was accompanied by the Director of the Agencia Canaria de Investigación, Innovación y Sociedad de la Información (ACIISI), Javier Franco. During the event, Clavijo announced that research in astrophysics and astronomy will receive 7 million euros

    Starmus premieres documentary and announces a special edition of the festival on La Palma
    La Palma will host a new edition of Starmus in 2024, according to Rafael Rebolo, director of the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC), and Garik Israelian, co-director of the festival and astrophysicist, at a press conference held at the IAC headquarters in La Laguna. "We are working to make this a reality and the way we have found is to relate it to the protection of the sky as an asset of humanity, which is why we will go hand in hand with the Starlight Foundation.     Meeting in La Palma of the International Scientific Committee of the Canary Islands Observatories
    Members of the different institutions that make up the International Scientific Committee (CCI) of the Canary Islands Observatories met last Tuesday, 31 October, in the island of La Palma. The meeting was attended by Rafael Rebolo, Director of the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC), and Casiana Múñoz, Deputy Director of the IAC. The CCI is the committee created in the International Agreements that established the Canary Islands Observatories for an effective participation of the User Institutions in the adoption of decisions related to the use and improvement of the observatories

    The countdown for the launch of ALISIO-1 has begun
    The first Canary Earth Observation Satellite, belonging to the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC), has successfully passed all the pre-launch technical tests, and is on the way to the United States for launch from California before the end of the year. ALISIO-1 ( Advanced Land-Imaging Satellite for Infrared Observations) is the first Canary satellite which will orbit the Earth, in the framework of the ALISIO space programme, led by the IAC and coordinated by the IACTEC-Space group.
