Astrophysics has been the main theme of the first day of the conference "Science with the GTC", that is held in Puebla (México). This is a multidisciplinary meeting: from exoplanets to asteroids, from black holes to gamma ray bursters, via supernovae and brown dwarfs. All these subjects, and many others, have been discussed during the twenty six presentations which took place today.

An international team of researchers is publishing in Nature the discovery of the microquasar M81 ULS-1, an ultraluminous source in the spiral galaxy M81, with data obtained with the Keck telescopes in 2010 and with the Gran Telescopio Canarias (GTC) in 2015.

An International team of scientists, which includes Ricardo Génova Santos of the Institute of Astrophysics of the Canaries (IAC), has identified in the data from ESA’s Planck satellite a signal which represents half of the missing baryonic matter in the “Local Universe”, the set of galaxies close to the Milky Way.
