  • On the effects of ion-neutral interactions in solar plasmas
Solar photosphere and chromosphere are composed of weakly ionized plasma for which collisional coupling decreases with height. This implies a breakdown of some hypotheses underlying magnetohydrodynamics at low altitudes and gives rise to non-ideal MHD effects such as ambipolar diffusion, Hall effect, etc. Recently, there has been progress in

  • On the determination of the He abundance distribution in globular clusters from the width of the main sequence
One crucial piece of information to study the origin of multiple stellar populations in globular clusters is the range of initial helium abundances ΔY amongst the sub-populations hosted by each cluster. These estimates are commonly obtained by measuring the width in colour of the unevolved main sequence in an optical colour-magnitude diagram (CMD)

  • Observations of Ellerman bomb emission features in He i D3 and He i 10 830 Å
Context. Ellerman bombs (EBs) are short-lived emission features, characterised by extended wing emission in hydrogen Balmer lines. Until now, no distinct signature of EBs has been found in the He i 10 830 Å line, and conclusive observations of EBs in He i D3 have never been reported. Aims: We aim to study the signature of EBs in neutral helium

  • Observation of the decay B+ → ψ(2S)ϕ(1020)K+ in pp collisions at √{ s} = 8TeV
The decay B+ →ψ(2S)ϕ(1020)K+ is observed for the first time using data collected from pp collisions at √{ s} = 8TeV by the CMS experiment at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.6fb-1. The branching fraction of this decay is measured, using the mode B+ →ψ(2S)K+ as normalization, to be (4.0 ± 0.4(stat) ± 0.6(syst) ± 0.2 (B)) ×10

  • NLTE Analysis of High-resolution H-band Spectra. II. Neutral Magnesium
Aiming at testing the validity of our magnesium atomic model and investigating the effects of non-local thermodynamical equilibrium (NLTE) on the formation of the H-band neutral magnesium lines, we derive the differential Mg abundances from selected transitions for 13 stars either adopting or relaxing the assumption of local thermodynamical
