  • Unusual high-frequency oscillations in the Kepler δ Scuti star KIC 4840675
We show that the star KIC 4840675 observed by Kepler is composed of three stars with a rapidly rotating A-type star and two solar-type fainter companions. The A-type star is a δ Scuti variable with a dominant mode and many other modes of lower amplitude, including several low-frequency variations. The low-frequency variation with highest amplitude

  • Ultraviolet emission line imaging of planetary nebulae with GALEX
GALEX (the Galaxy Evolution Explorer) has provided far-UV(1344-1786Å) and near-UV(1771-2831Å) imaging of several Planetary Nebulae (e.g., Bianchi et al. 2008, Bianchi 2012), with flux limits ~27.5 mag/sq.arcsec for objects in the Medium-deph Imaging Survey (MIS). PNe images in the GALEX broad-band UV filters include flux from both nebular line and

  • TMCalc - a fast code to derive Teff and [Fe/H] for FGK stars
We present a new direct spectroscopic calibration for a fast estimation of the stellar metallicity [Fe/H]. This calibration was computed using a large sample of 451 solar-type stars for which we have precise spectroscopic parameters derived from high quality spectra. The new [Fe/H] calibration is based on weak Fe I lines, which are expected to be

  • The unusual multi-wavelength SED of two optical dropout galaxies
We have used deep optical, near-IR, and IR observations from VLT, Spitzer, Herschel, and LABOCA in strong lensing clusters to study distant galaxies. In searches for optical-dropout galaxies (i.e. for z >~ 7 candidates) we have found several galaxies with very unusual SEDs characterised by a strong spectral break, presumably indicative of high-z

  • The star formation and chemical evolution history of the Fornax dwarf spheroidal galaxy
We present deep photometry in the B, V and I filters from CTIO/MOSAIC for about 270 000 stars in the Fornax dwarf spheroidal galaxy, out to a radius of rell ≈ 0.8 degrees. By combining the accurately calibrated photometry with the spectroscopic metallicity distributions of individual red giant branch stars we obtain the detailed star formation and

  • The second release of the Toruń catalogue of Galactic post-AGB objects: New classification scheme
The investigation of post-AGB objects (proto-planetary nebulae) is very important from the standpoint of physical and chemical changes occurring during the late stages of stellar evolution. The Toruń catalogue of Galactic post-AGB and related objects is an evolutive catalogue containing astrometric, photometric and spectroscopic data as well as HST
