  • Structure and dynamics of galaxies with a low surface-brightness disc - II. Stellar populations of bulges
We present the radial profiles of the Hβ, Mg and Fe line-strength indices for a sample of eight spiral galaxies with a low-surface-brightness stellar disc and a bulge. The correlations between the central values of the line-strength indices and velocity dispersion are consistent with those known for early-type galaxies and bulges of high-surface

  • SPIRE (f250um>17.4mJy) GOODS-N galaxies (Symeonidis+, 2011)
The IR data come from the Herschel/SPIRE Science Demonstration Phase (SDP) observations of the Great Observatories Origins Deep Survey (GOODS)-North, taken as part of the Herschel Multi-tiered Extragalactic Survey (HerMES) guaranteed-time key programme. (1 data file).

  • Satellites around Massive Galaxies Since z ~ 2: Confronting the Millennium Simulation with Observations
Minor merging has been postulated as the most likely evolutionary path to produce the increase in size and mass observed in the massive galaxies since z ~ 2. In this Letter, we directly test this hypothesis, comparing the population of satellites around massive galaxies in cosmological simulations versus the observations. We use state-of-the-art

  • Quasi-stellar objects in the ALHAMBRA survey. I. Photometric redshift accuracy based on 23 optical-NIR filter photometry
Context. Even the spectroscopic capabilities of today's ground and space-based observatories can not keep up with the enormous flow of detections (>105 deg-2) unveiled in modern cosmological surveys as: i) would be required enormous telescope time to perform the spectroscopic follow-ups and ii) spectra remain unattainable for the fainter detected

  • Quantum well intermixing in AlInGaAs QW structures through the interdiffusion of group III atoms
In this paper, the composition profiles within intermixed AlInGaAs-based multiple quantum wells structure are analyzed by secondary ion mass spectrometry and the bandgap blue shift is found to be mainly attributed to the interdiffusion of In and Ga between the quantum wells and barriers. Based on these results, AlInGaAs-based single quantum well
