  • Monitoring LMXBs with the Faulkes Telescopes
We have been undertaking a monitoring project of 13 low-mass X-ray binaries (LMXBs) using FT North since early 2006. The introduction of FT South has allowed us to extend this monitoring to include 15 southern hemisphere LMXBs (see Figure 1). With new instrumentation, we also intend to expand this monitoring to include both infrared wavelengths and

  • Moat Flow in the Vicinity of Sunspots for Various Penumbral Configurations
High-resolution time series of sunspots have been obtained with the Swedish 1 m Solar Telescope between 2003 and 2006 at different locations on the solar disk. Proper motions in seven different active regions have been studied. The analysis was performed by applying local correlation tracking to every series of sunspots, each of them more than 40

  • MAGIC Observation of the Prompt and Afterglow Emission from GRBs
During two years since the beginning of operation, the MAGIC telescope could observe several GRB events in the prompt and early afterglow phase. Thanks to its innovative design, the telescope could promptly react to incoming GCN alerts, rapidly slew to the burst coordinates within on average 45 seconds, performing observations with an energy

  • IPHAS symbiotic stars candidates (Corradi+, 2008)
As the present study was progressing, we started a campaign of spectroscopic follow-up of the Hα emitters detected by IPHAS. Accordingly a dozen candidate symbiotic stars, selected as described in the next sections, were observed at the INT using the IDS spectrograph, on nights of May 11, June 14, and September 9, 2006. • Integral Field Unit Spectrograph for Extremely Large Telescopes
We have carried out a concept study for a wide-field monolithic integral field unit (IFU) spectrograph for extremely large telescopes (ELTs). We target in this paper the technological challenges that have to be faced in order to build such an instrument, focusing on the adaptive optics (AO) requirements, the image slicer technology, and the
