  • Li abundances in late-type companions to neutron stars and black hole candidates
Following our recent report of a strong Li lambda 6708 resonance line in the secondary of the black hole candidate V404 Cyg, we present here its detection in the quiescent spectrum of the neutron star binary Cen X-4. We obtain, via a spectral synthesis Local Thermodynamic Equilibrium (LTE) analysis, a surface lithium abundance in the K-type

  • Light curves of CoRoT-2 in z-band, 4.5um and 8um (Gillon+, 2010)
Photometric time series obtained for CoRoT-2 with the VLT/FORS2 camera in z band during a transit of the planet CoRoT-2b and with the SST/IRAC camera at 4.5 and 8um during an occultation of the same planet. (3 data files).

  • Light pollution generated by laser guide star at Canarian Observatories
A new generation of instrument using a launching laser is been developed to correct the atmospheric image blurring and to establish optical communication with space. Then, light pollution generated by laser will be a serious operational problem in next years. This laser could affect astronomical works of adjacent telescopes when the laser lay

  • Limits on the flux of tau neutrinos from 1 PeV to 3 EeV with the MAGIC telescopes
A search for tau neutrino induced showers with the MAGIC telescopes is presented. The MAGIC telescopes located at an altitude of 2200 m a.s.l. in the Canary Island of La Palma, can point towards the horizon or a few degrees below across an azimuthal range of about 80°. This provides a possibility to search for air showers induced by tau leptons

  • Linear Polarization of Brown Dwarfs
L-type ultra-cool dwarfs are known to have a dusty atmosphere. Surface heterogeneities, due to cloud patterns or rotationally-induced oblateness, would result in an imperfect polarization cancellation and a small, but non-zero net polarization. The measurement of linear polarization could shed light on the dust distribution and oblateness of those

  • Linearization versus Preconditioning: Which Approach Is Best for Solving Multilevel Transfer Problems?
We present a critical analysis of linearization and preconditioning, the two most used approaches proposed for achieving the required linearity in the iterative solution of the multilevel transfer problem. By distinguishing from the outset between the response of the radiation field to the source function and opacity perturbations, we are able to
