  • Dark matter searches with Cherenkov telescopes: nearby dwarf galaxies or local galaxy clusters?
In this paper, we compare dwarf galaxies and galaxy clusters in order to elucidate which object class is the best target for gamma-ray DM searches with imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes (IACTs). We have built a mixed dwarfs+clusters sample containing some of the most promising nearby dwarf galaxies (Draco, Ursa Minor, Wilman 1 and Segue 1)

  • Data Reduction Pipeline for EMIR; a near-IR multiobject spectrograph for the Spanish 10m telescope
EMIR (Espectrografo Multiobjeto Infrarrojo) is a near-infrared wide-field camera and multi-object spectrograph to be built for the 10.4m Spanish telescope (Gran Telescopio Canarias, GTC) at La Palma. The Data Reduction Pipeline (DRP), which is being designed and built by the EMIR Universidad Complutense de Madrid group, will be optimized for

  • Deep CCD photometry of spiral galaxies
This study presents deep optical surface photometry in the R-band for the three spiral galaxies NGC 1003, NGC 5533, and NGC 6674. The luminosity profiles, derived by fitting ellipses to the isophotes, are decomposed into bulge and disk contributions using the method proposed by Kent (1986). The intrinsic bulge and disk axis ratios, used in the

  • Deep multicolor NIR survey of the Galactic plane
We present a deep multicolor NIR survey that we are currently undertaking at the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (Spain). The aim of the survey is obtain deep star counts in selected areas distributed along the Galactic plane to analyze the large scale structure of the Milky Way and the galactic components, in particular the Galactic bar. • Deforming the Lie algebra of vector fields on $S^1$ inside the Lie algebra of pseudodifferential symbols on $S^1$
We classify nontrivial deformations of the standard embedding of the Lie algebra $Vect(S^1)$ of smooth vector fields on the circle, into the Lie algebra~$PD(S^1)$ of pseudodifferential symbols on $S^1$. This approach leads to deformations of the central charge induced on $Vect(S^1)$ by the canonical central extension of $PD(S^1)$. As a result we
