  • The UV - optical - near-IR emission of BL Lacertae objects.
Results from UV, optical and near-IR simultaneous observations for 11 BL Lac objects are reported. The authors find that for all but one source the spectral flux distribution can be described by a single power law (fν ∝ ν-α) plus, where relevant, the contribution of the host galaxy. The comparison of the optical-near-IR and UV spectral indices for

  • The optical, infrared and radio light curve of OJ 287 during winter 1993 - 94.
The light curves of OJ 287 at UBVRIJHK, 22 and 37 GHz are presented for the 1993/94 observing campaign. Despite the considerable optical and infrared activity the light curve at 22 and 37 GHz is quite inactive. A slow increase in the flux is evident at both radio frequencies from the end of 1993, but this is much smaller than the visible

  • The magnetic field in the convection zone as a link between the active regions on the surface and the field in the solar interior
Recent developments in the theory of the rise of magnetic flux from the bottom of the convection zone to the surface to produce active regions are reviewed. These include the explanation for the observed tilt angle of the main magnetic axis of the active region as well as for some of the asymmetries between the preceding and follower polarities. It
