  • K2-106, a system containing a metal-rich planet and a planet of lower density
Aims: Planets in the mass range from 2 to 15 M⊕ are very diverse. Some of them have low densities, while others are very dense. By measuring the masses and radii, the mean densities, structure, and composition of the planets are constrained. These parameters also give us important information about their formation and evolution, and about possible

  • Keck Spectroscopy of Z ~ 3 Galaxies in the Hubble Deep Field
We have obtained spectra with the 10-m Keck telescope of a sample of 24 galaxies having colors consistent with star-forming galaxies at redshifts 2 ≲ z ≲ 4.5 in the Hubble Deep Field (HDF). Eleven of these galaxies are confirmed to be at high redshift (zmed=3.0). The spectra of the confirmed high-redshift galaxies show a diversity of features

  • Kepler observations: Light shed on the hybrid γ Doradus - δ Scuti pulsation phenomenon
Through the observational study of stellar pulsations, the internal structure of stars can be probed and theoretical models can be tested. The main sequence γ Doradus (Dor) and δ Scuti (Sct) stars with masses 1.2-2.5 M&sun; are particularly interesting for asteroseismic study. The γ Dor stars pulsate in high-order gravity (g) modes, with

  • Kiloparsec-scale Dust Disks in High-redshift Luminous Submillimeter Galaxies
We present high-resolution (0.″16) 870 μm Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) imaging of 16 luminous ({L}{IR}∼ 4× {10}12 {L}ȯ ) submillimeter galaxies (SMGs) from the ALESS survey of the Extended Chandra Deep Field South. This dust imaging traces the dust-obscured star formation in these z∼ 2.5 galaxies on ∼1.3 kpc scales. The

  • Kiloparsec-Scale X-Ray Jets
Several kiloparsec-scale X-ray jets have now been discovered with the Chandra X-ray Observatory, extending up to ~50 kpc (projected distance) from the active galactic nucleus in which the jet originates. In all cases, these jets also emit radio and optical light, which can be well explained as synchrotron radiation. We suggest that in at least some

  • Kinematic Modelling of the Sculptor Dwarf Spheroidal Galaxy
We present the first results from the mass modelling of the Sculptor dwarf spheroidal galaxy, using spectroscopic data from our VLT/FLAMES CaII triplet wide area survey of Sculptor.
