  • Proper Motions in Sunspot Penumbrae: Signs of Convection
Proper motions in penumbra have been measured using local correlation tracking techniques in a high spatial resolution series of images (˜0.12 arcsec). Assuming these motions to trace true plasma motions, we have detected converging flows that arrange the plasma in long narrow filaments mostly placed along dark penumbral filaments. These converging

  • Properties of H α -selected star-forming galaxies from z ~ 0.8 to now
We present a long-term project to study the characteristics and evolution of current star-forming galaxies at different redshifts. Our results support the idea that the higher Star Formation Density measured at redshift z=0.24 is due to an increase of the density of bursting galaxies and not to an intrinsic change on overall galaxy properties.

  • Properties of Hii Regions in a Sample of Spiral Galaxies
In this poster we present statistical properties of a sample of Hii regions in the spiral galaxies NGC 4254, NGC 4321, NGC 5194, NGC 5248, NGC 5350 and NGC 6951. We have constructed catalogues of H ii regions using Hα and Hβ line images. In these catalogues we show Hα fluxes corrected for extinction, Hβ fluxes corrected for stellar absorption and

  • Properties of the redback millisecond pulsar binary 3FGL J0212.1+5320
Linares et al. obtained quasi-simultaneous g΄-, r΄- and i΄-band light curves and an absorption-line radial velocity curve of the secondary star in the redback system 3FGL J0212.1+5320. The light curves showed two maxima and minima primarily due to the secondary star's ellipsoidal modulation, but with unequal maxima and minima. We fit these light

  • Properties of the Warm Star Sample from SDSS-Data Release 4
The warm star sample (7000 Teff 10,000 K) in SDSS is comprised of field horizontal branch (FHB) stars and a large number of blue straggler (BS) stars. Because these stars have a higher intrinsic luminosity than their cooler, turnoff and main-sequence counterparts, they are an ideal sample for probing both the global properties of the thick disk

  • Proposal generation tools for the GTC : Phase II
We present an overview of the life-cycle of the observing proposals to the GTC and the software tools designed to help the astronomers to create and submit these proposals for evaluation and execution.
