  • Short-period Variable Stars in Young Open Cluster Stock 8
We present time-series photometry in the field of Stock 8 and identified 130 short-period variable stars. Twenty-eight main-sequence and 23 pre-main-sequence variables are found to be part of cluster Stock 8. The main-sequence variables are classified as slow pulsators of the B-type, β Cep, and δ Scuti stars. Fourteen main-sequence stars could be

  • Searching for transiting cold Jupiters around bright stars with ASTEP South at Dome C, Antarctica
Much of our understanding of gas giant exoplanets come from those transiting in front of bright stars at small orbital separations (P 3 days, a 0.05 au). These hot Jupiters are coupled to their host star: stellar irradiation impacts the chemistry and temperature structure of their atmospheres and tidal interactions affects the orbital dynamics and

  • Search for alkali metals in the atmospheres of low-density exoplanets
Exoplanets with relatively clear atmospheres are prime targets for detailed studies of chemical compositions and abundances. Alkali metals have long been suggested to exhibit broad wings due to pressure broadening, but most of the alkali detections only show very narrow absorption cores, which probably hints the presence of clouds. We have been

  • SDSS-IV MaNGA: Spatial Evolution of Star Formation Triggered by Galaxy Interactions
Galaxy interaction is considered a key driver of galaxy evolution and star formation (SF) history. In this paper, we present an empirical picture of the radial extent of interaction-triggered SF along the merger sequence. The samples under study are drawn from the integral field spectroscopy survey SDSS-IV MaNGA, including 205 star-forming galaxies

  • Rotational and Rotational-Vibrational Raman Spectroscopy of Air to Characterize Astronomical Spectrographs
Raman scattering enables unforeseen uses for the laser guide-star system of the Very Large Telescope. Here, we present the observation of one up-link sodium laser beam acquired with the ESPRESSO spectrograph at a resolution λ /Δ λ ˜140 000 . In 900 s on source, we detect the pure rotational Raman lines of 16O2, 14N2, and 14N 15N (tentatively) up to
