Description
This agreement establishes a collaboration framework between the Cabildo Insular de Tenerife (Council of Tenerife) and the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC) to carry out the R&D project titled "Development and Application of Aerospace Technologies for the Management and Protection of the Natural Environment in Tenerife", with total funding of €462,000 and a duration of three years, from November 1, 2024 to November 1, 2027.
The main goal is to apply space-based technologies to wildfire emergency management through two research lines:
- Advanced image processing (from ALISIO-1, Sentinel-2 and UAVs equipped with DRAGO cameras) for accurate wildfire perimeter detection and integration with Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
- SWIR spectral processing to generate detailed moisture and fuel maps, also GIS-compatible.
The project includes software development, technological adaptations of airborne cameras, and API creation for data integration into external systems.
